My visit to "Shrivast"

Today was a special day for me. Nothing very special happened today, but yes, Something special.

It was in my mind from last couple of months to visit “Srivast” – orphanage in Sassoon hospital campus. On Sunday itself, I had collected all old clothes of my daughters (Praju and Ketu) and I was ready to visit “Srivast”

I reached Srivast at around 10.00 A.M. I also took some Laddoos and some chocolates for the children. I asked the lady on the door about the donation procedure. She explained me in her way. It is very simple. We should hand over the things which you want to donate in the office, take the receipt of it. You can also meet; play with the children there if you wish.

I went to the office, handed over the clothes bag. The girl in the office gave me the receipt. She asked me “Do you have anything else other than clothes?”. I said, “No, I have bought chocolates and some Laddoos which you need not enter in the receipt”. But she insisted me for that. She said, we keep track of any single thing which is given for these children. She also said that, people do not believe on us. Some body may feel that, we are taking the things away. But this is not the real picture and hence it is mandatory for us to enter every thing in the receipts. I was rally spellbound with her words….

I asked her, can I meet children. But she said, they are restricting playing with them because of Swine Flue. I felt very bad..but don’t know what the lady felt. She said, “Ok come with me”.

She took me first to the section where there were all small babies till 3 months old. There was a small girl who was just 2 days back admitted. Police from some nearby village admitted here there. I was looking at the girl..She was so innocent, doesn’t know where she is, who are her parents…I felt really very dishearten.

We visited to another section of children above 3 months. There was girl – Sukha. She was of 6 months old. I smiled at her and even she smiled at me. The smile was so sweet and innocent
The office lady was telling me that almost every week, 2-3 children get admissions. But even rate of adoption is good and now days within last 3-4 years it is increased. People prefer adopting girls then a boy. Not sure what is the thought behind it. Might be because, girls are loving and caring if compared to boys. She was telling that during Diwali, “10 Laxmi’s” were adopted and they are now at their homes.

Whole day I was thinking about these children and about their lives. We and our children are living very happily. We give everything to our children whatever they demand for. What about these children? Are they getting at least single thing what they wish for? I am not sure whether they are getting good food, goo clothes and books. But then we can surely do something for these children … I don’t think it is an overhead for us when we spend lot of time and money on unwanted things. …These children have very minimal necessities, for which we can surely help….Now I have decided that at least once in 3-4 months I am going to spend some time with these children and I will try to do something for them..
